Values, Mission, Vision
A framework for identifying and grounding what matters — for yourself and your organization.
Why start with values
Starting with values has helped me, couples, and countless organizations I've worked with. Folks usually try to find help when they're in crisis, but whenever we've skipped this foundational work, it's shown up later as expensive rework.
Below is a list of possible core values organized by domain to help you narrow down the highest values for yourself and your organization.
Mission vs. Vision
Vision — a company's long-term goals. Vision statements are broad and don't change. "We envision a world where every child is met with dignity and every organization operates from its core."
Mission — the current purpose and method for contributing to the vision. It includes what the organization does, who it serves, and how it makes contact with the world.
If you think there's overlap, you're right. It's okay — you don't have to do it perfectly. Do your best.
Sample vision statements, sample mission statements, and combined examples are available on request. Reach out and I'll send templates that fit your context.
